Celebrating Hindu Nava Varsha at HSS Shakha, Cary, NC – A Testimony to Unity, Devotion, and Seva

The celebration of Hindu Nava Varsha (Ugadi), a vibrant and auspicious festival marking the start of the Hindu New Year, became a memorable event for all who gathered at the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) Shakha in Cary, North Carolina. With a heartwarming turnout of 105 participants, the event was not just about festivity but also about showcasing the power of unity, dedication, and meticulous planning within our community.

The Planning and Execution: A Testament to the Strength of Our Sevikas
This year’s celebration was especially significant because it was entirely planned and executed by our Sevikas – the women’s group of our Shakha. Over the course of a month, our dedicated Sevikas worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every detail was perfectly arranged. From coordinating the program, setting up the sound system, preparing the Prasad, and organizing cultural performances, the event was a well-oiled machine, exemplifying teamwork, leadership, and commitment to our values.

The event served as a perfect demonstration of the strength and resilience of our Sevikas, who led with confidence and coordination, managing all logistics and activities seamlessly. Their collective effort was a true reflection of what Seva (selfless service), Sanskar (values), and Sangathan (organization) stand for in our Shakha.

Cultural Performances and Thought-Provoking Skits
The event featured two powerful and engaging skits performed by our young members. These performances not only entertained the audience but also conveyed deep cultural and moral messages:

  1. Dr. Hedgewar’s Childhood Incident – This skit vividly portrayed how Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar (Doctorji), even as a child, refused to accept sweets during the coronation of Queen Victoria. This small yet profound act of patriotism highlighted Doctorji’s early commitment to national pride and his unwavering principles of self-respect. It was a reminder of the powerful impact of values instilled at a young age.

  2. Challenges of Hindu Customs in the US – A moving skit performed by a young girl depicted the struggles faced by Hindu families living abroad in upholding their cultural traditions. It addressed the modern-day challenges of staying connected to our roots while navigating a different societal environment. The skit resonated with many, as it provided practical insights into maintaining our Dharma and traditions in a foreign land.

Baudhik Session – A Message of Unity and Culture
One of the most profound parts of the event was the Baudhik session, delivered by our Mukhya Atithi (chief guest) from Nagpur, the birthplace of RSS. His speech focused on the importance of Hindu unity, self-discipline, and the need to preserve our cultural identity in an ever-changing world. His words reminded us of the power of unity and the strength we gain from adhering to our values.

Additionally, our Vibhag Pramukh delivered an impactful Baudhik, stressing the importance of Seva and Samarpan (dedication). His message resonated deeply, urging everyone to not only strengthen our community but also to work towards the betterment of society through personal service and commitment.

Soulful Singing and Delicious Prasad
To complement the spirit of the celebration, the event featured a soulful group singing led by the Sevikas. The melodious tunes filled the air with a sense of devotion and positivity, strengthening the bond within our community. Following the singing, attendees were treated to homemade Prasad, lovingly prepared by the Sevikas. This gesture of selfless giving not only nourished the body but also symbolized the spiritual connection we share as a community.

A Powerful Start to the Hindu New Year
This celebration of Hindu Nava Varsha was not only a festive occasion but also a testament to the strength of our Shakha. From meticulous planning to flawless execution, it was clear that our Sevikas have set a high standard of leadership and commitment. The event demonstrated what can be achieved when we come together, support each other, and work towards a common goal – a strong, united, and devoted community.

As we move forward into the new year, let’s take inspiration from the values highlighted during this event – Seva, Sanskar, and Samarpan – and continue to build a stronger, more connected Shakha.

Swami Vivekananda: The Visionary Monk Who Awakened Bharat and the World

Swami Vivekananda remains an eternal inspiration for spiritual seekers, youth, and patriots across the world. His teachings on Vedanta, Yoga, and selfless service transformed modern India, while his historic Chicago speech in 1893 introduced Hindu philosophy to the West. Having spent 11 years in Kolkata , I personally witnessed the profound influence of Swami Vivekananda, especially at Dakshineshwar Kali Temple , where his guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa attained enlightenment. My experience deepened in 2013 when I participated in his 150th birth anniversary celebration , a grand event attended by over 10,000 youth , organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and addressed by Shri Mohan Bhagwatji . It was here that I realized Swamiji’s unmatched role in shaping modern Bharat . The Struggles Before the Chicago Speech Swami Vivekananda’s journey to Chicago was filled with hardships. Sent by a Maharaja from Bharat , he lost his ticket after reaching the U.S. and found him...
